Kings Dominion Amusement Park Update

Park: Closed Waterpark: Closed View Hours
May 7, 2021 Update

Kings Dominion will postpone the opening of Soak City Water Park this season until June 19.

As we’re seeing across a wide range of industries, the availability of labor has been a challenge. We want to be sure we are delivering fun and memorable experiences to our park guests.

The new opening date strikes an appropriate balance between our operating calendar and the availability of seasonal associates needed to create the expected guest experience.

  • Passholders with Ride & Slide reservations will still be valid for entry to enjoy the rides, shows and dining at Kings Dominion only on the date you selected. Should you wish to reschedule your visit to a date that Soak City is open, please visit the Reservation Portal.
  • If you have a single-day ticket that was purchased before April 26, 2021 and you have made a reservation for the Soak City Water Park, your reservation will still be valid for entry to enjoy the rides, shows and dining at Kings Dominion only on the date you selected. Should you wish to reschedule your visit to a date that Soak City is open, please visit the Reservation Portal.
  • All tickets purchased for Kings Dominion & Soak City will be extended for use on any public operating date through September 6, 2021. No further action or reservation is needed! Please be sure to visit our online calendar for the most up-to-date Soak City hours of operation.
  • Due to the postponed opening, we will refund your cabana in full. Should you wish to change the date of your visit, simply re-book a cabana on another available date.
    If your cabana was purchased using a credit card, there is no action needed on your part. The refund will be made back to the credit card used within the next 7-12 business days.
    If you made your purchase through an alternate method, or your card has expired or has been cancelled since your purchase, please complete the information available on our Contact Us page.

If you need further assistance, our Guest Services team is available by online submission through our Contact Us page.

Kings Dominion Reopens in 2020 with New "Taste of the Season" Outdoor Holiday Food Event

Kings Dominion is reopening in December with a new limited-time, limited-capacity event, Kings Dominion’s Taste of the Season: An Outdoor Holiday Experience. The holiday celebration will feature 25 sweet and savory tastings, festive themed areas, live shows, and 16 popular rides throughout the park. The event will be open on select dates between December 5 and December 27.

The park has developed stringent health, safety and hygiene protocols, which align with CDC guidance and incorporate information from company and industry health and safety experts, along with state and local government officials to protect guests and associates.

"This has been a challenging year for everyone, which is why we are ready and excited to welcome guests back to the park for some holiday cheer," said Tony Johnson, vice president and general manager at Kings Dominion. "Kings Dominion has a comprehensive safety plan in place that has proven to be effective in all of our sister parks that were allowed to safely operate earlier this year. We can't wait for families to return to the park and make treasured holiday memories safely."

A video and detailed information are available at KingsDominion.com that outline the new protocols to ensure a safe and sanitary environment:

  • To manage park capacity, every guest will need a reservation. Season passholders may reserve dates through our new online system. A reservation will also be tied to every single-day ticket. Tickets must be purchased online in advance.
  • A requirement to complete a simple online pre-visit health screening declaration 24 hours prior to visiting the park;
  • A touchless temperature screening prior to entering the facility for both guests and associates;
  • Requirements for all guests, associates and vendors to wear face coverings that cover the nose and mouth. Face coverings may not have exhalation valves or vents.
  • Social distancing markers throughout the park, including ride queue lines;
  • Limited guest/associate contact;
  • Enhanced cleaning procedures, including additional deep cleaning and sanitization of restrooms, dining facilities and other busy areas;
  • Additional hand sanitation stations; and
  • Capacity management throughout the park.

Complete information and FAQs are available at kingsdominion.com.

Reservations will be required for all guests to manage capacity and maintain social distance standards. Season Passholder reservations open November 16, and single-day tickets (which will automatically be tied to a reservation) will be available beginning November 18.

All guests are asked to download Kings Dominion’s free mobile app to manage their season passes and tickets, make park reservations, complete the health declaration and get the latest information during park visits.

A Message from Tony Johnson, Vice President & General Manager of Kings Dominion

Today, Kings Dominion announced that it would remain closed for the rest of 2020 due to challenges related to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The safety of our guests and associates is always our top priority, and we have done our due diligence in developing a comprehensive safety plan in accordance with industry and public health standards. However, the state’s Phase 3 reopening restriction of limiting the park to only 1,000 guests has brought us to the difficult decision to keep the park closed for the rest of the year.

Earlier this season, we extended 2020 Season Passes and add-on products to be valid through 2021. To further show our commitment and appreciation, all 2020 Season Passholders will now also receive a Pass Perks™ Loyalty Reward valid for purchases within the park next season. Day tickets sold for the 2020 season will be valid through September 6, 2021. Finally, any Pre-K Passes that were registered or activated in 2020 will be valid through 2021. Affected guests will receive an email with relevant details. Season Passes for 2021 will be available for purchase beginning September 8, 2020.

As we look forward to brighter days, our team will continue to work with public health authorities to ensure that our guests and associates can return to fun in a safe environment next season. We are planning a great 2021 with rides, attractions and entertainment for the whole family, including:

  • The opening of a reimagined area in Soak City, Coconut Shores, featuring an all-new multi-level aqua play structure, a mini wave pool for kids, and a new dining experience;
  • The return of our popular seasonal events including the nighttime international festival Grand Carnivale; and
  • New exciting dining options designed by the park’s executive chef and culinary team.

We thank our guests and associates for their continued loyalty and support during this challenging time and we look forward to seeing you at the park in 2021.

A Message from Tony Johnson, Vice President & General Manager of Kings Dominion

As the coronavirus (COVID-19) matter remains a part of our daily lives, the team at Kings Dominion continues to work with health and safety experts as we plan for increased safety measures and operational changes throughout our park. We are in constant communication with our state and federal governments and are looking forward to welcoming you back just as soon as it is safe to do so. Although our reopen date is still uncertain, here are a few things we can share:

  • We continue to update and enhance our park with a reimagined area in Soak City, Coconut Shores, which will feature an all-new multi-level aqua play structure, a mini wave pool for kids, and a new dining experience
  • Our Run & Ride event will now take place virtually
  • This year’s Memorial Weekend Salute is unfortunately cancelled but will return in 2021
  • Grand Carnivale, our immersive evening parade and international street festival, will be postponed to 2021

As previously announced, we have extended the validity of all 2020 Season Passes and Season Pass Add-On Products through the 2021 season, plus we have paused Easy Pay billing while the park is closed*. Likewise, we will continue to work with guests who may have prepaid single-day tickets valid for days during our temporary park closure. Ticket inquiries may be directed to https://www.kingsdominion.com/help/contact-us.

The safety of our guests and associates has always been and will always be our top priority. We want to assure you that when we do open, Kings Dominion will continue to be a safe and fun environment for all. Our team is 100% committed to this promise. And we are working alongside industry experts and government officials toward this shared goal. We will keep you updated as we move forward; in the meantime, we thank you for your loyalty and continued support.

*2020 Season Passes and purchased 2020 Season Pass add-on products (if applicable) will be valid through the 2021 Season according to pass type. 2020 Pre-K Passes will be valid during 2020 only. For 2020 Season Passholders participating in our Easy Pay Program, monthly billing has been suspended, and will remain suspended while the park is closed.  When the park reopens, billing will resume.  Passholders will need to be current on payments to receive both 2020 and 2021 Season Pass admission and associated benefits.

A Message from Tony Johnson, Vice President & General Manager of Kings Dominion

As we face these unprecedented circumstances, I want to thank you for your support of Kings Dominion. We continue to monitor and follow local and national health directives while preparing to open our park as soon as it is safe to do so.

In the meantime, I want to share information on how we will manage 2020 Season Passholder benefits:

  • 2020 Season Passes and purchased 2020 Season Pass Add-On Products (if applicable) will be valid for the remainder of 2020 when our park is able to reopen.
  • Additionally, we will extend the validity dates for current 2020 Season Passes* (as well as purchased 2020 Season Pass Add-On Products) through the 2021 Season according to pass type.
  • For 2020 Season Passholders participating in our Easy Pay Program, monthly billing has been suspended as of April 8, 2020, and will remain suspended while the park is closed.  When the park reopens, billing will resume.  Passholders will need to be current on payments to receive both 2020 and 2021 Season Pass admission and associated benefits.

Likewise, we will continue to work with Guests who have prepaid single-day tickets during the time period of our temporary park closure. Ticket inquiries may be directed to www.kingsdominion.com/help/contact-us.

We want nothing more than to reopen our park and welcome you back, but our priority for now is to keep everyone safe. This is a challenging time for us all, and we thank you again for your understanding and loyalty to Kings Dominion.

*2020 Pre-K Pass will be valid during 2020 only.

At Cedar Fair, the safety and well-being of our Guests and Associates are always our top priorities.

As we continue to follow regional and national health directives related to COVID-19, we want to provide the latest update regarding our park schedule. Currently, Kings Dominion and Kings Dominion KOA Campground are temporarily closed. It is our hope to reopen both properties mid-May or as soon thereafter as possible. We believe this decision is in the best interest of our associates, our guests, and our communities.

We will continue to work with our Guests who have prepaid single-day tickets or who have booked campsites or cabins during the time period of our park closure. Ticket inquiries or re-bookings may be requested at www.kingsdominion.com/help/contact-us.

For 2020 Season Passholders, we will be adding days to the park’s operating calendar to accommodate for the days the park is temporarily closed (against the original 2020 operating calendar). Additionally, 2020 Season Passholders will enjoy added-value benefits to be announced at the time of park opening.

We appreciate the support and cooperation of our Guests and Associates during this ever-evolving situation. Your loyalty to our park is invaluable. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Sincerely,

Kings Dominion will postpone its park opening this season until Saturday, April 4.  We continue to follow guidance from local and state officials, as well as the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).  While there have been no confirmed cases of COVID-19 at our properties, we believe this is the right decision for our guests, associates, and community.

The Kings Dominion KOA Campground will remain open. We will work with our guests who have prepaid single-day tickets or booked rooms during the time period of our park closure. Refunds or re-bookings may be requested at info@kingsdominion.com.
