November 10, 2020 Update
Kings Dominion Reopens in 2020 with New "Taste of the Season" Outdoor Holiday Food Event
Kings Dominion is reopening in December with a new limited-time, limited-capacity event, Kings Dominion’s Taste of the Season: An Outdoor Holiday Experience. The holiday celebration will feature 25 sweet and savory tastings, festive themed areas, live shows, and 16 popular rides throughout the park. The event will be open on select dates between December 5 and December 27.
The park has developed stringent health, safety and hygiene protocols, which align with CDC guidance and incorporate information from company and industry health and safety experts, along with state and local government officials to protect guests and associates.
"This has been a challenging year for everyone, which is why we are ready and excited to welcome guests back to the park for some holiday cheer," said Tony Johnson, vice president and general manager at Kings Dominion. "Kings Dominion has a comprehensive safety plan in place that has proven to be effective in all of our sister parks that were allowed to safely operate earlier this year. We can't wait for families to return to the park and make treasured holiday memories safely."
A video and detailed information are available at KingsDominion.com that outline the new protocols to ensure a safe and sanitary environment:
- To manage park capacity, every guest will need a reservation. Season passholders may reserve dates through our new online system. A reservation will also be tied to every single-day ticket. Tickets must be purchased online in advance.
- A requirement to complete a simple online pre-visit health screening declaration 24 hours prior to visiting the park;
- A touchless temperature screening prior to entering the facility for both guests and associates;
- Requirements for all guests, associates and vendors to wear face coverings that cover the nose and mouth. Face coverings may not have exhalation valves or vents.
- Social distancing markers throughout the park, including ride queue lines;
- Limited guest/associate contact;
- Enhanced cleaning procedures, including additional deep cleaning and sanitization of restrooms, dining facilities and other busy areas;
- Additional hand sanitation stations; and
- Capacity management throughout the park.
Complete information and FAQs are available at kingsdominion.com.
Reservations will be required for all guests to manage capacity and maintain social distance standards. Season Passholder reservations open November 16, and single-day tickets (which will automatically be tied to a reservation) will be available beginning November 18.
All guests are asked to download Kings Dominion’s free mobile app to manage their season passes and tickets, make park reservations, complete the health declaration and get the latest information during park visits.
August 4, 2020 Update
A Message from Tony Johnson, Vice President & General Manager of Kings Dominion
Today, Kings Dominion announced that it would remain closed for the rest of 2020 due to challenges related to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The safety of our guests and associates is always our top priority, and we have done our due diligence in developing a comprehensive safety plan in accordance with industry and public health standards. However, the state’s Phase 3 reopening restriction of limiting the park to only 1,000 guests has brought us to the difficult decision to keep the park closed for the rest of the year.
Earlier this season, we extended 2020 Season Passes and add-on products to be valid through 2021. To further show our commitment and appreciation, all 2020 Season Passholders will now also receive a Pass Perks™ Loyalty Reward valid for purchases within the park next season. Day tickets sold for the 2020 season will be valid through September 6, 2021. Finally, any Pre-K Passes that were registered or activated in 2020 will be valid through 2021. Affected guests will receive an email with relevant details. Season Passes for 2021 will be available for purchase beginning September 8, 2020.
As we look forward to brighter days, our team will continue to work with public health authorities to ensure that our guests and associates can return to fun in a safe environment next season. We are planning a great 2021 with rides, attractions and entertainment for the whole family, including:
- The opening of a reimagined area in Soak City, Coconut Shores, featuring an all-new multi-level aqua play structure, a mini wave pool for kids, and a new dining experience;
- The return of our popular seasonal events including the nighttime international festival Grand Carnivale; and
- New exciting dining options designed by the park’s executive chef and culinary team.
We thank our guests and associates for their continued loyalty and support during this challenging time and we look forward to seeing you at the park in 2021.

At Cedar Fair, the safety and well-being of our Guests and Associates are always our top priorities.
As we continue to follow regional and national health directives related to COVID-19, we want to provide the latest update regarding our park schedule. We will continue to work with our Guests who have prepaid single-day tickets or who have booked campsites or cabins during the time period of our park closure. Ticket inquiries or re-bookings may be requested at www.kingsdominion.com/help/contact-us.
For 2020 Season Passholders, we will be adding days to the park’s operating calendar to accommodate for the days the park is temporarily closed (against the original 2020 operating calendar). Additionally, 2020 Season Passholders will enjoy added-value benefits to be announced at the time of park opening.
We appreciate the support and cooperation of our Guests and Associates during this ever-evolving situation. Your loyalty to our park is invaluable. We look forward to seeing you soon.
