Two new attractions debut this year.  Riders soar 30 stories above the park on WindSeeker, a 301-foot-tall tower swing ride.   Visitors to the park are able to step back in time to periods between 245 million and 65 million years ago in the all-new Dinosaurs Alive!
On March 29, 2013, Kings Dominion unveiled its bigger, better Planet Snoopy children's area. Planet Snoopy at Kings Dominion will feature 8 new rides (18 total), a newly expanded 1,100 square-foot Family Care Center, daily meet-and-greet opportunities with the PEANUTS characters, the Richmond-based self-serve frozen yogurt shop SweetFrog and more.

Also in 2013, Kings Dominion has its largest entertainment line-up in years, with 7 new shows, including "All Wheel Sports" with bikers and skaters who were semifinalists on Season 7 of NBC's America's Got Talent, along with "On Broadway", a Broadway-style musical revue. Also new is "Dominion at Dusk" featuring Snoopy's Starlight Spectacular, a new live show and fireworks on all 10pm closes.
In 2014, Kings Dominion began celebrating its 40th Anniversary with the return of some favorites from the past. Just a few of these attractions were the Candy Apple Grove and the Singing Mushrooms. Our Congo area was also rebranded Safari Village in honor of Lion Country Safari that debuted in 1974.
In 2015 Kings Dominion announced its Waterpark expansion project with WaterWorks being rebranded as Soak City. We also introduced 2 new attractions. Hurricane Heights, a 65 ft. mega complex featuring 3 new slides and Splash Island, a family splash zone.

On May 3rd, 2015 Kings Dominion celebrated it OFFICIAL 40th Birthday with a huge party at the park that included a plaque dedicaton for the front gate, live entertainment in all areas of the park, special birthday prizes for guests and much more.

Information For Guests With Disabilities

At Kings Dominion we are proud of our reputation for accommodating guests with disabilities through our Ride Admission Policy. To continue to provide equal access for all guests, be aware that all guests with mobility impairments or ASD will now receive a Ride Boarding Pass with wait times. The Ride Boarding Pass Program allows guests to access rides at specified times via the exit ramp in order to avoid crowds and waiting in the regular queue lines.

You may be asking yourself whether Kings Dominion is appropriate for guests with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or whether your loved one on the spectrum will be able to handle the theme park experience. Kings Dominion has taken steps to be well-prepared to welcome and provide accommodations for all types of disabilities, including autism and related disorders.

Helpful Tips for Guests With ASD

As you know, advance planning is a requirement for any successful theme park visit with a person with ASD. You should be able to find information on our rides, shows and attractions in advance online.  A great planning tool is the park’s Guest Assistance Guide is also available for download.  The Guide outlines the specifics about each attraction, including height requirements and health restrictions. Feel free to contact Guest Services in advance at (804) 876-5400 with any additional questions.

When you arrive, please proceed to Guest Services located at the Front Gate.

  • Please have the individual requiring accommodation accompany you to Guest Services.

  • A pass may be issued depending on the needs of your group, including a boarding pass used for scheduling times to ride attractions.

  • Here at Guest Services we offer KidTrack, a wrist band program, which will assist you and park personnel in reuniting your group should you become separated.

  • We also offer Parent Swap. This allows one parent to ride while another parent waits with the child. When the ride is complete, the parents swap child responsibility at the exit.

  • Additionally, if you need to rent a stroller, wheelchair or locker, proceed to Stroller Rental adjacent to Guest Services inside the front gate.

Please re-visit Guest Services if you need any additional help with your day. We also recommend that as an added safety measure you take a photo of members of your party (especially if you have a child with ASD who tends to dart away or wander off) on your mobile device. This photo can be of great assistance to quickly reunite your party if you are separated.

A Few Things to Keep in Mind:

  • Guests who wear headphones of any type will not be able to wear them while riding our attractions. We have available disposable ear protection for use at Guest Services.

  • If you are separated during your visit, please contact any park employee for assistance.

  • Ride delays may occur while riding and members of your party may be required to sit quietly until the ride is restarted or guests are escorted off the ride.

  • Please be aware, if an evacuation is required, guests may need to maneuver across catwalks from the highest point of the ride and down steeply inclined steps.

  • If you have any doubts whatsoever about an attraction’s appropriateness for the individual with ASD, please have someone in your party ride it first to make an informed determination.

Kings Dominion offers our guests several restful attractions and quiet places that your party can enjoy during the day. The park has a First Aid Station next to the Eiffel Tower and Family Care Center in Planet Snoopy. Additionally, air conditioned restaurants provide a nice break from the sensory stimulation.

Kings Dominion is a wonderful destination for families and friends to visit. Our goal is to make your experience at the park both smooth and full of family-fun. Please let us know if you have any further questions by contacting (804) 876-5400 or by talking to a Guest Services representative at the park.

In addition, the Kings Dominion employees help donate blood through two blood drives set up for associates during the summer season. In 2015, Kings Dominion will partner with Virginia Blood Services and the American Red Cross for guest blood drives.
Kings Dominion and Challenge Discovery are both committed to improving the emotional, health and well-being of at-risk children in the Richmond area. Kings Dominion is also the sponsor of the Challenge Discovery Golf Tournament held at Independence Golf Club in Chesterfield.
Ticket donations are provided to those non-profit organizations meeting all requirements and are subject to ticket availability. A ticket request does not guarantee a donation and a maximum of two (2) tickets per request per year may be granted. Requests generally take four to six weeks to process. Due to the high volume of submissions, please do not call or e-Mail concerning the status of your request.

The 2015 Application Window is now closed for the season. We will begin accepting applications for next season in early January 2016. You can find out more detailed information about the KD Cares program, including guidelines and eligibility requirements by visiting the KD Cares section of our website.

Each year, Kings Dominion and Cedar Fair partner with Give Kids the World, a 70-acre, non-profit resort in Central Florida that creates lasting memories for children with life- threatening illnesses and their families. In partnership with Give Kids the World, Kings Dominion welcomes all children and their families that obtain a passport from the Give Kids the World village. This passport allows the child and his or her family to visit Kings Dominion and enjoy a day at the park.

Kings Dominion also hosts Coasting For Kids each year to benefit Give Kids the World. You can sign up for the event and read more about Coasting for Kids here
Kings Dominion is a proud support of the Hanover County School system to better educate its students and prepare them for employment in the future. During the spring months, Kings Dominion hosts three Job Shadow days with Hanover County Middle School students. The students visit the park on Friday afternoons and work with several department managers, including Food & Beverage, Merchandise and more.
Kings Dominion is honored to be a partner with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Capitol Chapter (JDRF). Each year, Kings Dominion donates $2 from every guest ticket sold under the JDRF ticket program toward researching and curing Type 1 diabetes. In 2012, Kings Dominion donated nearly $20,000 to JDRF Capitol Chapter.
Each year, Kings Dominion and its employees participate in more than a dozen community events throughout the year. In 2013, Kings Dominion employees will participate in projects for Habitat for Humanity, as well as volunteer to stock the food shelves and send food to the needy at the Virginia Food Bank Kitchen in Richmond.
Kings Dominion partneres with the Mayor's Youth Academy out of the City of Richmond to hire 80 high school students in Richmond for the summer at Kings Dominion. The Mayor's Youth Academy -- a program created by Richmond City Mayor Dwight Jones -- provides Richmond youth an opportunity to work during the summer months. The Richmond students hired by Kings Dominion began working at the park in April and will continue to work at the park through the summer season.
In 2013, Kings Dominion began a new reading program to promote and encourage kids to read throughout the year through the Reading is Rewarding program. As part of this program, children are able to visit Kings Dominion, where learning is present in our bigger, better Planet Snoopy. Kings Dominion works with hundreds of organizations and public libraries, including the DC Public Library, Richmond Public Library and more.
In 2014 we hosted the Relay For Life Western Hanover at our Campground. And this year, in 2015, on June 20th we will be hosting once again at Camp Wilderness, but will be combining the Western Hanover and Mechanicsville Relay For Life events for the first time. Team Kings Dominion Cares is also a major player in the fundraising efforts for the event, contributing over 25% of the event’s total fundraising dollars, as well as working with local companies and partners for sponsorship of the event.
Kings Dominion and the United Way of Greater Richmond and Petersburg teamed up in 2013 to produce the Planet Snoopy Family FUNtastic Guide to our bigger, better Planet Snoopy. The FUNtastic Guide is an educational learning tool for parents to use to interact with their children before, during and after a trip to Kings Dominion.

Kings Dominion is committed to making sure that families visiting Kings Dominion not only have fun, but learn at the same time.

Waterpark Information

To participate in water park attractions, proper bathing attire is required. Here are some recommendations to help you plan your visit:

  • Proper swimwear is required. Swimwear is defined as a one or two piece swimsuit. Pants, denim, thongs, or transparent clothing are not permitted. We reserve the right to determine the appropriateness of swimwear.

  • Guests wearing bathing attire with metal buttons, rivets, zippers, or snaps will not be permitted to ride Baja Bends, Night Slider, Power Plunge, Paradise Plunge, or the Soak City Splash House slides. Guests are not permitted to wear shirts on Baja Bends or Power Plunge. A swimsuit or swimsuit material is required – surf shorts and rash guards, for example, are allowed. Guests are not permitted to wear any type of shirt including surf shirts or rash guards on the slides at Paradise Plunge.

  • Footwear is not permitted on any of the slides in Soak City.

  • Guests requiring special accommodation should speak to a member of the Aquatics management team. Specifically designed attire made out of lycra or nylon type materials will be considered. Due to attraction manufacturer requirements, some riding restrictions may apply.

  • Diaper dependent guests are required to wear swim diapers or a diaper specifically designed for aquatic use.

  • When exiting Soak City, shirts, shorts, and shoes are required.

If you do not have appropriate bathing attire, swimsuits and other aquatic gear can be purchased at Mary’s Shorts & Shades and Sun ‘n’ Surf Supplies.

To ensure the safest experience for all guests during their visit, the following rules are in effect. We appreciate your cooperation in this regard.

  • Attractions may have specific height, weight, and safety requirements. Please refer to the Safety Guide sign posted at each attraction to make an informed decision as to whether the attraction is right for you.

  • Please refrain from running, horseplay, and other boisterous activities.

  • Glassware and similar material with a tendency to shatter on impact are not permitted in Soak City.

  • For safety reasons, diving is not permitted at any attraction.

  • Kings Dominion is a smoke-free environment. Smoking is only permitted in designat

    ed smoking areas.

  • Keep an eye on your young children. Children should not be left unattended at any time.

  • Please secure all loose articles, including hats, glasses, and jewelry when riding. Cameras, cell phones and video recording devices may not be used on any slide or in any changing area or restroom.

  • Water toys, whistles, and inflatable assists are not permitted.

  • Masks and snorkels are not permitted at any water attraction.

  • Hearing devices or any other electronic devices may be damaged by water. Please take the necessary steps to protect such items.

  • According to crowd size, time at the water attractions and access to Soak City may be limited.

Our Aquatics staff is here to ensure that you have a safe and pleasant visit. First aid staff and water park supervisors are available throughout the area should you have any questions or need assistance. Please follow all lifeguard rules and instructions, but do not talk to or distract lifeguards while they are on duty.

In an effort to provide a safe and enjoyable water park experience for our guests, Soak City routinely utilizes training exercises to improve our lifeguards’ skills and vigilance. These exercises will occur during normal operating hours and may consist of the following: submersible water mannequins, the use of video surveillance equipment, internal and external audits, active/inactive water rescues and/or first aid scenarios.

Soak City provides a full day of fun in the sun! To make the most of your day, be sure to drink plenty of water in order to avoid heat exhaustion. Drinking fountains are located near each restroom. Don’t forget to apply sunscreen frequently throughout the day. If you happen to forget your sunscreen, Mary’s Shorts & Shades and Sun ‘n’ Surf Supplies have a variety of sunscreens and sundries available for purchase.

Life jackets are available for use throughout Soak City. Life jackets are complimentary and are available to any guest wishing to use one. Children, first-time swimmers, and weaker swimmers are encouraged to wear a life jacket. Life jackets are available for all guests needing special consideration. Some attractions require children below a specific height to wear a life jacket before participating in the attraction. Aquatics staff and lifeguards reserve the right to impose the use of life jackets as needed. For specific attraction requirements, please visit our Rider Safety Guide.  Guests are permitted to wear their own life jacket; however it must be Coast Guard certified.

The First Aid Station is located behind the lockers at Sun ‘n’ Surf Supplies. If you need any assistance during your visit, do not hesitate to stop by the First Aid Station, or notify the nearest lifeguard. Our team would be glad to assist.

Upon arriving, we recommend selecting a meeting place such as First Aid or the entrance to Splash Island in the event you or your child becomes lost or separated from your party. In the unlikely event that your child becomes separated, please alert an associate. Public address pages cannot be broadcast inside Soak City.

If you happen to lose an item or leave an item behind while visiting, please drop by Lost & Found located just outside the Main Gate during regular operating hours.

Soak City is committed to providing all of our guests with an enjoyable visit. Guests with disabilities are encouraged to visit our Guests with Disabilities page for detailed information on the requirements of each attraction, along with the programs that Kings Dominion and Soak City offer.

A water wheelchair is available for guests requiring additional assistance when at Tidal Wave Bay, Splash Island, Soak City Splash House, or Big Wave Bay. The water wheelchair may be used by multiple guests on the same day. A pool lift is available at the Lazy Rider. During your visit, please speak to a member of our Aquatics management team to obtain access to the water wheelchair or the pool lift and for further accessibility information.

For your convenience, lockers are located at Mary’s Shorts & Shades and Sun ‘n’ Surf Supplies. Various locker sizes are available for all of your personal belongings. Locker rentals are automated and can be paid using coins, cash, and credit cards. Debit cards cannot be used at this time. The lockers work with electronic pin codes and will allow unlimited access throughout the day. Locker access is available until both Soak City and Kings Dominion are closed for the evening. Kings Dominion cannot be held responsible for lost or stolen items.

Relax and enjoy the privacy of your own wave side cabana. A limited number of exclusive cabanas are available each day and often sell out. For more information and to reserve your cabana visit our Cabana page.

Inner tubes are available free of charge at each attraction that requires a tube in order to ride. Inner tubes must remain at the attraction after riding.
