Celebrate Memorial Weekend at home - Kings Dominion Style!

Memorial Day Weekend is the unofficial start of summer. While we wish you could be at the park celebrating with us, don’t let that stop your fun! We gathered a few ideas to help you celebrate at home, with a Kings Dominion twist.

1. Honor the troops

Remember the reason for this special holiday weekend. Be sure to reach out to your local USO chapter, to see how you can support the troops. The USO of Hampton Roads and Central Virginia are supporting troops through snack bags in Richmond and at Langley, games and goodies for troops at Ft. Lee, and even supporting the National Guard at testing locations.

2. Celebrate your Creativity with new Coloring Pages

Rain or shine, you can celebrate and let your creativity show with PEANUTS and park-themed patriotic coloring pages!

3. Fire up the grill

We reached out to grill-master and executive chef, Denis Calinan, for some of his top grilling tips. From smoked bbq, a recipe for the Pimento Cheeseburger at Juke Box Diner to finding the perfect grilling vegetables, your taste buds will be celebrating with their own fireworks.

4. Make Your Own Water Park

It won’t be Soak City, but you’ll appreciate the cooldown. Practice your slippin’ and sliding with a DIY slip n’ slide, have your own splashtastic water balloon fight, or just sit and enjoy the sunshine! Need some background music? Pretend you’re poolside at Tidal Wave Bay with relaxing wave sounds.

5. A Stay Away at Camp Wilderness

Our campground, Camp Wilderness – the Kings Dominion/Richmond North KOA – is open to guests with reservations! Tent sites, deluxe cabins and RV hookups are open with limited amenities at this time. While the park is still temporarily closed, this is a great time to practice your tent pitching, perfect your s’mores roasting and connect with family while practicing safe social distancing.

6. Close the night with a Virtual Fireworks Show

Memorial Day Weekend is hard to picture without a fireworks celebration! We put together a brief video of a previous show at the park to bring the celebration to you. Be sure to cast to your tv for a “close-up” experience!
