National Best Friends Day: From Co-worker to Besties

Maggie Sellers

Communications Manager

Friendships can often come from unexpected places and for some of our associates, the people they have met while on the job have grown into the best of friends. In honor of National Best Friends Day, we’re highlighting just a few of these Best Friendships and how they’ve grown along the way.

Chevon & David – Aquatics

We met in 2012 in our first lifeguard class.

How are you staying connected?

We are actually neighbors.

How long have you known each other?

8 years

Favorite thing to do together?

Go to the gym

Fun Fact about you and your bestie?

We both like a basketball team in California but they are rival teams. David is a Los Angeles Lakers fan and I’m a Golden State Warriors fan.

Christian and Devon – Human Resources

We meet in 2017 when I worked in HR as an orientation trainer.

How are you staying connected?

We text back and forth, and when we have a chance we meet up!

How long have you known each other?

3years

Favorite thing to do together?

Laugh, sing, and dance

Fun Fact about you and your bestie?

Most of the time we can tell what each other is thinking just by our facial expressions

Chelsea (Merchandise) and Davon (Entertainment) -

How did you meet?

We met in Soak City training back when I was a merchandise associate in 2019.

How are you staying connected?

We have each other’s social media and iMessage

How long have you known each other?

We have known each other for a year now. We got so close that not only do I call Davon by best friend, but he is like a brother figure to me.

Favorite thing to do together?

Whenever we would work together, we loved to spill tea while getting work done. And while not working, we share weird memes and TikTok videos!

Fun Fact about you and your bestie?

We were both born in the same year, but Davon is older.

Nikki and Tammie – Campground

How did you meet?

I went on maternity leave from the campground in May of 2011. Tammie was hired as a front desk agent during my leave and when I returned in late June, Tammie and I clicked. We became friends rather quickly which evolved into the BFF’s we are today.

How are you staying connected?

During the pandemic we’ve stayed connected through text, sending memes through Facebook messenger, phone calls and an occasional girls night sleepover.

How long have you known each other?

9 years

Favorite thing to do together?

Fishing! Either out on Tammie’s boat where she is the captain and I’m the 1st mate or out on a pier somewhere. We also love our Mexican food and Margarita girls’ nights and we also enjoy our Wine & Design paint nights followed by a late-night trip to Krispy Kreme.

Fun Fact about you and your bestie?

We always go with each other when one or both of us are getting tattoos.

Sebastian and Melissa – Entertainment

How did you meet?

Melissa and I actually first met at ops training, and she totally avoided me. Then we met again at character training and she mentioned a hobby that I had wanted to try. I asked her about it later. We didn't really connect until the 3 week period after Memorial day, though. We were some of the only 20- somethings in the character department, so we worked together just about every day. We started hanging out at the park after work, and she eventually invited me to the house she and she her fiancée share. After that we started going to conventions together and hanging out several times a week outside of work. We even go to Moe's every Monday!

How are you staying connected?

We do social distance hangouts right now, but when we aren't in a pandemic we hang out almost every day. I practically live at her house.

How long have you known each other?

I think it's 3 years now

Favorite thing to do together?

Eat, watch junk tv, and play video games. We also love to shout at bad craft videos- her fiancee does not appreciate this activity.

Fun Fact about you and your bestie?

We have matching Peanuts shoes! They're Pigpen Van's.

We also don't know each other's cell phone numbers - we talk through messenger.

Devon and Danielle - Entertainment

How did you meet?

During the 2018 summer season, we were Co-Stage Managers for the show “Sunset Party Mix”. We created a friendship I wouldn’t change for anything.

How are you staying connected?

We text, call, walk, and go out for dinner all the time!

How long have you known each other?

2 years

Favorite thing to do together?

Our favorite thing we like to do is to go get margaritas and laugh. We also love to go on adventures with creating memories. We love to go walking through nature and enjoying a great day. We love to go shopping and looking for strange and unusual things, like ourselves LOL.

Fun Fact about you and your bestie?

Fun fact is that I was able to go see my first Cher concert with my Best Friend. We also absolutely love Halloween, all the decorations, and spooky adventures. Last summer we took a road trip up to our sister park Dorney Park for their Grand Carnival. Kings Dominion has such a special place in my heart, and it has a way of bringing people together and forming friendships that will last a lifetime.

Last but not least…

Crystal and Tim - Entertainment

How did you meet?

We met at Kings Dominion through a local coaster club and he was working Halloween Haunt. We got to meet face to face under the Eiffel Tower when he was out of costume.

How do you stay connected?

We're staying connected because we live together for almost 3 years!

How long have you known each other?

We've known each other since 2014, about 6 years.

Favorite thing to do together?

We love each other's company: traveling, going to a nice dinner but especially being together at the parks.

Fun Fact about you and your bestie?

We got engaged in the same place we met at Kings Dominion: under the Eiffel Tower!

Many incredible friendships that last a lifetime have begun at the park, these are just a few! Who else can’t wait to get back to the park with their besties for some fun?
