Center of the Universe Brewing Company: A Partnership Fit for a King

What do you classify as an amazing day? For some, it might mean getting off work early. For others, like our guests, it means getting to enjoy quality products while venturing onto different rides within the park. To allow more of our guests to experience an amazing day with us, we were lucky to form a partnership with a local craft brewery, Center of the Universe Brewing Company.

Located in Ashland, just over 10 miles from the park, Center of the Universe Brewing Company (COTU) first opened its doors in 2009, after a hobby between two brothers led to a craft brewery. Chris Ray, co-founder, and his brother want COTU to be a company known as one that truly embraces the community, which is where our partnership with them comes into play.

When Ray began exploring partnership opportunities with businesses in the surrounding area, Kings Dominion was one of the first places that came to mind. “As an entertainment powerhouse in the area, we were always anxious to tie in with Kings Dominion, especially considering the close proximity to the brewery. To our surprise, Kings Dominion was also just as eager to work with us! Through Brown Distributing, we were put in the same room and the ideas just started spewing out. When I can combine beer with rollercoasters and call it work, I think I’m in a good place!”

That “good place” has allowed Kings Dominion to tap into the local craft beer scene to include an exclusive series, Kings Brew, that can only be found at the park. Starting with Kings Brew IPA, we have been able to add a new beer each year to our tap list with the Kings Brew Lager added next and Kings Brew Amber being added in 2019.

When asked what inspired each addition to the Kings Brew series, Ray was quick to mention the diversity that comes with all the guests we welcome from around the country. “Kings Dominion is a business that attracts and hosts visitors from all over the country. With that diversity in people comes diversity in tastes. More specifically, tastes in beer,” Ray said. “We wanted to ensure that we were able to create a brand that embraces that diversity and allows each beer-loving visitor to find something that he or she will enjoy.”

So, what does this partnership mean to you, our passholders and guests? Simple- when you drink your refreshing beer, you know you’re supporting a local business all while enjoying the thrills and attractions at Kings Dominion with high quality drink included. No matter how big or small a company or individual is, we are committed to supporting those within the community, which adds to the family atmosphere we hope you experience when visiting our park.

You might be wondering what’s next moving forward with our partnership between COTU and Kings Dominion- luckily, we’ve got savory ideas in the making! For now, you can sip on one of our Kings Brew series drinks at several locations within the park, including our newly opened taproom, the Parched Pig, located in Old Virginia!
