Back in Old Virginia, there’s a new tale to tell. Have you heard the story of our new store, Grizzly Gulch? The only gateway to the Grizzly coaster, there’s an interesting story as to how they all tie together. If you haven’t heard it, here’s the message that describes it all, which you can also hear in person within the store:

“Well hello there! Welcome to Grizzly Gulch, home of some of the finest prospecting this side of the Appalachians. I’m just hanging around waiting on Old Man Johnson; he’s the proprietor of this here fine establishment. People around these parts think he’s crazy, cause he claims there’s a grizzly bear in the woods behind his store. I know what you’re thinking; there aren’t any Grizzly Bears in Virginia. But Old Man Johnson swears he can hear it rattling around back there. He says he can even hear people screaming. No one around these parts believes a word he says. But if I were you, I wouldn’t go back there. And if you do, don’t let the Grizzly get you.”

For those who aren’t taking their chances of experiencing a Grizzly, we’ve upgraded our sluicing station outside so you can find even more precious stones! With two different sized bags of mining rough available for purchase, up to 12 people can participate along the stream of water. As you dip your screen bottom box in the water, soil washes away and you’re able to discover different gemstones. Using your key, identify exactly which treasure you’ve found!

You’ll also find apparel inside available for purchase including shirts, pajama sets, and so much more. A lot of merchandise at this location is exclusive to Grizzly Gulch, so you’ll want to make sure to check out these “bear-y” cool items.

Grizzly Gulch is located on the outskirts of Old Virginia and is open as long as the park is. Share your gem finds, as well as bear sightings, with us on social media @kingsdominionva.
