Revving Up after Refresh: Intimidator 305

As opening day draws near, it’s almost time to start your engines on Intimidator 305! Before you get buckled in to one of the tallest, fastest and most thrilling rides on the East Coast, we wanted to take the opportunity to give our cars a refresh during the off season. Although regular maintenance is performed on our rides when the park is closed, this was a special project that our maintenance team was excited about. They’ve been hard at work making sure the cars are race ready for opening day, and we wanted to give you a behind-the-scenes look at how much detail goes into one of our most popular roller coasters.

To start off, our friends in the Sign Shop completely stripped down two of the front-end I305 cars. This included sanding the cars and wiping them down to get rid of any dust or particles left behind from running on the tracks all season.

After making sure the car was dry from wiping it down, it was time to paint! No changes were made to the design of the car, so the classic colors of red, black and grey were needed to get the job done. Our maintenance team made sure to mock the process of painting a regular car by priming them before adding a base coat and ending with a clear coat and finish to give the car it’s “brand new” look.

One new addition to the I305 cars was the use of quality graphics from a high-end printer. This ensures that the cars will keep their fresh appearance for anywhere from seven to ten years!

All in all, the entire process took our team about four days to complete. They know how much our riders value the experience when taking a spin on our coasters, which is why they pay so much attention to detail when completing projects like these. Whether it be taking the plunge in the front seat to get an up close view, or purchasing a photo after flying through twists and turns, our maintenance team takes pride in making sure our rides look their best for our guests.

By using the same process as painting a regular vehicle, the I305 front-end trains are ready to rev up for opening day! Want to grab a front row seat in the newly refreshed I305 cars? Score unlimited visits to Kings Dominion with a Season Pass, where you can enjoy the park throughout all four seasons! Also, stay tuned to our blog for more exciting updates, news, and events happening at Kings Dominion. You won’t want to miss what’s amazing in here!
