Autism Awareness Week at Kings Dominion

While planning the perfect day in the park is challenging for any family, if someone in your family is on the autism spectrum, it can require more careful planning and attention.

Kings Dominion is proud to partner with the Autism Society to present Autism Awareness Week. During this time we want to highlight features of the park that are available to guests and their families to make everyone feel included in the fun. This includes sensory friendly shows, quiet rooms, gluten free food options and more.

Boarding Pass Program

To those on the autism spectrum, especially those who may easily be overwhelmed and experience sensory overload, the exciting environment of an amusement park can be challenging. Upon arrival at the park, guests can visit Guest Services and obtain a Boarding Pass through our Boarding Pass Program. This allows a group of up to 4 to schedule ride times and use Alternate Access Entrances to avoid sensory overload.

Gluten Free Food Options:

  • Victoria’s Pizza
  • Pizza Parlor
  • Sharkey’s

(Guests must request a gluten free bun.)

  • Hungry Hippo
  • Juke Box

Salads/Fruit Cups

  • Border Burrito (Salad Bowl)
  • Pizza Parlor
  • Victoria’s Pizza
  • Sharkey’s
  • Mac Bowl
  • Country Kitchen

Sensory Friendly Shows

Sensory friendly family shows are available in the park.

  • Franklin’s Dance Party | PEANUTS Playhouse
    • 12:00 PM • 1:00 PM • 2:30 PM • 3:30 PM • Saturday 4:30 (Off Wednesdays)
  • Space Beagle | PEANUTS Playhouse
    • 12:30 PM • 1:30 PM • 3:00 PM • 4:00 PM • Saturday 5:00 (Off Wednesdays)

Quiet Space

A Quiet/Sensory Space is available in Planet Snoopy at the Family Care Center and features comfortable seating, weighted blankets, headphones, fidget toys and more.

Wristbands are also located in the Family Care Center to write a contact number in case you and your child are separated.

Strobe Lighting

If you are unsure about an attraction’s appropriateness for the individual with autism, please have someone in your party ride first to make an informed determination. The following rides utilize strobing, quickly moving lights or lighting effects:

  • Americana
  • Apple Zapple
  • Bad Apple
  • Boo Blasters
  • Delirium
  • Dominator
  • Great Pumpkin Coaster
  • Intimidator 305
  • Log Flume
  • Twisted Timbers
  • WindSeeker
  • Woodstock Express

We hope this helps provide an AMAZING experience for all our guests. Please don’t hesitate to contact us at (804) 876-5000 with any other questions.
