HVAC & Refrigeration Mechanic

Kings Dominion has an opening in its Park Maintenance Division for a HVAC & Refrigeration Mechanic. This position will report to the HVAC Supervisor.

JOB FUNCTIONS SUMMARY:
Installs, monitors, constructs, maintains and repairs heating, ventilation, chiller systems, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC/R) systems throughout the Park. Maintains and repairs all food and beverage cooking equipment throughout the Park. Responds to service calls. Performs related work as required.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
  • Must maintain required control system operations certifications.
  • Ability to pass a mandatory (or random) drug test, per Company policy, unless prohibited by state or provincial law.
  • Ability to pass a background check, if 18 years of age or older, which may include, but is not limited to, credit, criminal, DMV, previous employment, education and personal references, per Company policy, unless prohibited by federal, state, or provincial law.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends and holiday periods to meet business needs.
  • Driver's License

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Operates vacuum pump, recovery unit, forklift, drills, JLG man lift, etc. Uses meters, gauges, shop tools, electrician tools, diagnostic equipment, volt meters, analyzers, etc.
  • Maintains park's chiller plant, boiler systems, food service equipment, etc.
  • Maintains and operates Fire Effects systems. Conduct daily safety operational checks and checklists, maintain wage logs, inspect burner assemblies and gas valves. Conducts minor repairs as needed, coordinate with rides maintenance to start and stop effects; burn off effects adhering to manufacturer and park standards.
  • Conducts winterization and startup. Flush outdoor drink systems, restarts all equipment and check buildings for problems with equipment related systems before park opening. Flush, drain, and add necessary chemicals, etc.
  • Troubleshoots and services problems and equipment failures. Responds to service calls for refrigeration units such as walk-in freezers, coolers, ice machines, soft service machines, prep coolers, display cases, etc.
  • Installs, monitors, maintains, repairs and retrofits HVAC&R equipment and systems throughout the Park. Performs preventative maintenance for refrigeration units and HVAC&R systems: changes belts, bearings, greasing, etc.
  • Troubleshoots and makes repairs to HVAC&R systems such as direct expansion units, chilled water units, 1-25 tens, electrical, gas units and exhaust/hood systems.
  • Provides guest service according to Cedar Fair standards when serving the guest or working with subordinates, including initiating guest interactions, answering questions and giving directions.
  • Maintains cleanliness and safety in assigned work area and performs all duties in compliance with Cedar Fair Safety guidelines and requirements and reports all unsafe or unusual conditions to supervision.
  • Meets scheduling availability requirements, including nights, weekends, and holiday periods to meet business needs.
  • Meets Cedar Fair's attendance requirements as outlined in Cedar Fair's attendance policies.
  • Adheres to Cedar Fair's Rules of Conduct including specific costuming and grooming standards as outlined in Employee Guidelines and other park/division specific policies and procedures.

Kings Dominion has an immediate opening for the position of Tech Rides Maintenance in Doswell, Virginia. This full time position will report to the Supervisor of Rides Maintenance.

JOB SUMMARY:
Inspects, maintains and repairs rides and equipment as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• High school diploma supplemented by three to five years of experience in mechanical/industrial maintenance, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
• Knowledge of all phases of mechanical work including pneumatics, hydraulics, repair, overhaul and preventive maintenance.
• Must be at least 18 years old and have a valid driver’s license.
• Ability to climb heights up to 350 feet.
• Ability to work independently.
• Basic welding helpful.
• Must provide own tools.
• Position requires rotating first and second shifts; including weekends and holidays during the operating season.
• Ability to pass a mandatory (or random) drug test and background check, which may include, but is not limited to credit, criminal, DMV, previous employment, education and personal references, per Company policy.
• Strong, instinctive work ethic.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Inspects, maintains and repairs rides and equipment as assigned. Lubricates rides and equipment. Clean mechanical parts as needed. Responds to work order and ride downtime calls in timely manner. Disassembles, repairs, overhauls and reassembles rides as assigned.
• Designs and fabricates parts; rebuilds components.
• Winterizes and winter rebuilds rides as assigned. Conducts non-destructive testing.
• Saws, repairs, restores and reupholsters ride seats.
• Operates rides, boom truck, overhead crane, forklift, man lift, hoist, air compressor, hydraulic press, milling machine, diagnostic equipment, welding equipment, hand and power tools, cutting torch, etc.
• Adheres to and enforces all park policies and procedures, including safety, attendance and EEO policies, and demonstrates commitment to guest service in all aspects of employment.
• Other duties as may be assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develops and/or reviews menus for catered and special events; oversees events including; proper beverage and serving line placement, food preparation, cooking schedules and amounts.
  • Keeps abreast of food and beverage trends, regulations, technology and products for the restaurant and theme park industries; develops new and innovative operational methods and menu items to improve overall park operations and ensures optimal production, profitability, efficiency and service.
  • Ensures communication of and compliance with all state and county health regulations and standards, VA ABC laws, as well as industry and park health and safety standards. Regularly inspects facilities and cart locations to ensure standards are met or exceeded in the areas of: safety, food quality, presentation, guest service, organization and cleanliness.
  • Develops, implements, evaluates effectiveness of and recommends adjustments to: policies and procedures, equipment manuals, training materials, handbooks, checklists, workbooks, etc.
  • Prepares, reviews, and/or approves forms and documentation including; performance appraisals, schedules, training materials, recipe cards, bonus cards, attendance records, employee counseling forms, break schedules, labor sheets, staffing reports, guest comments forms and financial reports.
  • Oversees assigned concessionaire locations; serving as the primary point of contact for concessionaires; communicating and evaluating adherence to park standards and policies.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn various other types of software.
  • Oversees daily operation of assigned food and beverage retail locations to include assisting in development and execution of annual business plan, menu planning, point of sale and revenue management; tracking of financial information; maintenance requests; staffing; and reviewing and approving employee work schedules to ensure proper staffing for business levels, while meeting budgetary guidelines.
  • Assists with all aspects of managing the department's seasonal staff to include hiring, training, development, supervising, coaching and scheduling.
  • Adheres to and enforces all Cedar Fair and specific Park policies and procedures, including safety, attendance and EEO policies, and demonstrates commitment to customer service in all aspects of employment.
