2019 Autism Awareness Week at Kings Dominion

July 5, 2019

The Autism Society of America has been improving the lives of all affected by autism for over 50 years and envisions a world where individuals and families living with autism are able to maximize their quality of life, are treated with the highest level of dignity, and live in a society in which their talents and skills are appreciated and valued. They provide advocacy, education, information and referral, support, and community at national, state and local levels through our strong nationwide network of affiliates.

We’re proud to partner with the Autism Society to provide special features the week of July 8-14, 2019 so that ALL guests can enjoy a great day at the park with friends and family. If you have a family member or friend on the Autism spectrum, take a look at all the ways we’re creating a special atmosphere at the park next week, just for them.

Boarding Pass Program

To those on the autism spectrum, especially those who may easily be overwhelmed and experience sensory overload, the exciting environment of an amusement park can be challenging. Upon arrival at the park, guests can visit Guest Services and obtain a Boarding Pass through our Boarding Pass Program. This allows a group of up to 4 to schedule ride times and use Alternate Access Entrances to avoid sensory overload.

First Aid and Quiet/Sensory Spaces

Quiet spaces may serve as a location for families to take a break and cool off. Our Family Care Center in Planet Snoopy is the perfect place to relax with comfortable seating and fidget toys. Additionally, air-conditioned restaurants provide a nice break from the sensory stimulation.

Additional Services

Here at Kings Dominion we offer KidTrack, which is a wrist band program that will assist you and park personnel in reuniting your group should you become separated. Wristbands for the KidTrack program can be found at Guest Services or the Family Care Center.

Families can also take advantage of our Parent Swap program. This allows one parent to ride while another parent waits with the child. When the ride is complete, the parents swap child responsibility at the exit.

We want everyone at Kings Dominion to experience AMAZING, even if it takes additional assistance. Please let us know if you have any further questions by contacting (804) 876-5400 or by talking to a Guest Services representative at the park.
